My eighth week as a senior has had me running all over the place trying to get my work done; from one class to another or from one meeting to another. But the good part was that we had at least one supply teacher almost every day of the week.
Monday was a comparatively light day. In Sociology, we continued with the topic of Fertility and Fecundity. We discussed the financial aspect of voluntary childlessness, or the want to not have kids because of a very low or very high income. In Biology, we had a supply teacher. So, we had to do was listen to a recording of the explanation of glycolysis our teacher had posted on Google Classroom. In Chemistry, we continued studying conversions of organic chemicals. In Math, we went over solving inequalities of rational functions.
Tuesday was, thankfully, a review of almost everything we did on Monday. In Biology, our teacher took up glycolysis in a different way; more of a path than a step by step procedure. In Sociology, we had the first 30 minutes to work on our tutorial article. Then we started a new chapter: Poverty and Affluence. We discussed the need for such a classification and whether we should have the wealthy 1% or not. It was a thought-provoking class. In Math, we continued with graphing inequalities. We had a group activity because our teacher wanted to know if we like group reviews or not. I personally don’t. In Chemistry, we had a supply teacher. We completed a worksheet on conversions.
Wednesday was my favourite day this week. We had a tutorial class in Sociology. I was impressed with how easily I used the appropriate terminology in our discussion. I think I’m warming up to the concept of tutorials. After that, we talked about the earliest evidence of Social Stratifications. In Biology, we learnt about the formation of Acetyl CoA, which is probably the simplest part of cellular respiration. At lunch, SAC had a run-through for the haunted house. I am so excited about my role. In Chemistry, we started Synthetic Pathways. It’s a simple concept of getting from one chemical group to another through multiple steps. It’s my favourite part of Organic Chemistry. We had a supply teacher in Math, so we got a review assignment to complete.
Thursday was a tiring day. In Biology, we started learning about the Krebs cycle. Our teacher played a recording of her teaching, and, alongside, had us come up to her and show her our processed data for the lab report. In Sociology, we had a lesson on the development of Stratification Systems and the types of classification systems found in our society. At lunch, SAC had another run-through for the haunted house. In Math, we had a review of the chapter for the test. I had already done most of it as homework, so I may have zoned out a little. In Chemistry, we were given an assignment to make a mini-presentation for a topic from the next chapter. My partner and I chose Polyesters. It was an early dismissal because of the parent-teacher interviews. My mom decided she wanted to meet all my teachers and took me along with her. I got better feedback than even I hoped for. It was a lot of fun.
TGIF. In Sociology, we talked about the economic factors of poverty, as well as the sociological and psychological factors. In Biology, our teacher took up the Krebs cycle. She showed us a Christmas wreath that said Happy Krebsmas and the decorations showed the whole cycle. At lunch, we had a UCC meeting. In Chemistry, we had a lab activity to make esters. My group made esters that smelled like banana flavouring, permanent markers and nail polish. The classroom stank by the end of the period. In Math, we had a test for Chapter 5. I feel like we’re going through one chapter a week.
This was a long and hard week. I didn’t even get the chance to include how much homework we got. I hope your week was breezy and easy. - Aarushi
