Grade 12 is getting busier and busier for me. I wanted the week to end on Monday. But, in all honesty, this is how like my weeks to be.
The week began with a whole day of SAC planning for the upcoming events. I wore formal clothes because we had to have our pictures for the yearbook taken. It was a potluck breakfast, so my contribution was juice and cups. I had a very sugary breakfast; doughnuts, timbits, cookies, chips etc. We planned for our Semi-Formal Dance and lots of Spirit Days for the rest of the year. We had pizza for lunch, and I missed almost all of my classes for the day. I attended the last 15 minutes of my Chemistry class, where we learned how to draw line diagrams of hydrocarbons and how to name them.
On Tuesday, not much happened. In Sociology, I submitted my Bowling for Columbine Essay Outline and we worked our class presentations on the generation we were assigned. My group was assigned the Baby Boomers generation. It was interesting, learning about why my grandparents are the way they are. In Biology, we continued learning more about cell organelles; specifically, the endomembrane system. We had a study period in Chemistry for the test on Wednesday. And in Math, we learned how to synthetically divide polynomials. I had so much homework that evening, even after doing so much at school.
On Wednesday, I forgot my bag of binders at home. I usually keep my heavy textbooks in my backpack and carry my binders in a reusable bag. That morning, in a rush to get to school, I forgot to take my binders with me. I realized their absence 10 minutes before my first class. So, I had to ask my mom to bring them to the school’s office. I collected them after period one but, that whole hour was probably the most anxious one I’ve had since grade 12 started.
In Biology, we completed the sheet about the relation of proteins with the endomembrane system. It’s amazing to think about how organelles so small, they can’t be seen without a microscope, can do enough to make a whole human being. In Sociology, it was our turn to present. It was an awkward presentation, but we made it through to the end. During lunch, we had a SAC meeting about the cool (and spooky) things we have in store for the month of October. I can’t wait for all of it to happen. In Chemistry, we had a unit test. I think I did well; only time will tell. XD. In Math, we continued with the division of polynomials. It was a chaotic day but, fortunately, I only had Math homework.
On Thursday, I woke up early to get to school at 7:30 to help set up for the Universities Pathways Fair. The fair took up the first half of the day. We had a communal presentation from York U, Ryerson, UofT and Ontario Colleges. Then, we went to our designated classrooms and in smaller groups, we were given a presentation of different universities. My group got Queen’s U, Tyndale U, Ontario Tech and OCAD. It was borderline boring. The fair at lunch was amazing. I got so many pens with cool designs and purposes. Some have stylus tips and some have highlighter ends. The ones from Trent U have recyclable and biodegradable parts.
In Chemistry, we were assigned a task to draw and create a 3D model of hydrocarbons on ChemSketch. It’s a fun and interactive way to see that compounds aren’t just straight lines. The program lets you look at the compound from all angles. In Math, we completed Ch3 and moved to Ch4. We had a quiz and I’m pretty sure I got 100%.
Friday was a calm day. It started with a nice lesson in Biology. I got to move to the front because even with glasses I can’t see. We worked through transport in cells. We got to the end of passive transport and stopped to do an activity. Our teacher had soaked 2 eggs in vinegar to dissolve the shell. Then she placed the rinsed eggs into 2 separate beakers with different concentrations of solute. We’ll do the analysis on Monday. In Sociology, a couple more groups presented. Before the class ended, our teacher gave us homework, which was to make a pie chart showing everybody’s contribution to the group’s presentation. The person who seemingly did the most work will get a bonus mark.
At lunch, we had a UCC meeting. I got the executive position I interviewed for. I'm a PR Manager now! In Chemistry, we continued drawing different functional groups and giving them names. In Math, we solved the inequalities of polynomials. After school, I went to the library with my friend to finish our Altered Reality Chemistry assignment.
This week has been fun and busy and amazing. I loved every moment and I’m grateful to everyone who was a part of it. I hope your week was wonderful as well. - Aarushi
