This week has been the coolest week of Grade 12. It was full of fun and great memories. Welcome Week was a big hit.
Monday started with a worksheet of the theories of adolescence in Sociology. I like worksheets that are charts or tables that help you jot down similar ideas in categories. Textbooks can have a lot of information that isn’t all helpful and these sheets just make it easier to study before a test. In Biology, we continued learning about competitive and non-competitive inhibition. We watched some cool videos to help understand the concepts.
We had a popcorn lunch. Anybody wearing our school colors and following the SAC’s page on Instagram got some free popcorn. The machine is so cool to use. We gained upwards of 200 followers. I thought I would be late for Chemistry, but I was on time. I still have to go to the office to get a locker change. In Chemistry, we just worked on the structure of solids and how intermolecular forces affect them. We started a new chapter in Math, Polynomials.
Tuesday was a lot of fun. I had a presentation in Biology of the journal article summary. I did pretty well in the communication and the presentation part of the rubric. Just waiting for her to mark my Knowledge and Application parts. We had a free period in Sociology and because I was done with all of my work, I got to study for the Chemistry quiz. I left 20 minutes early to help set up for the dance party in the cafeteria. It was so much fun. It ended sooner than we had expected because of an altercation but that won’t taint my memory of that day. I got to math class a bit late, but thankfully I didn’t miss anything. In Chemistry, we had a quiz and took up the previous quiz. Overall, it was the most fun day of the week.
On Wednesday, my Sociology teacher came back from her personal leave and went right into teaching us about demography and theories of adolescence in detail. We were given an assignment to make an essay outline on the topic ‘Bowling for Columbine is a complex study of the social sciences’. So, it’s like an essay in note form. In Biology, we studied the factors that affect enzyme activity and with that, we wrapped up Ch1. I left early to help set up for the Capture the Flag game at lunch. It was a great turnout. The Red team won!
In Chemistry, we were given an assignment about an altered reality where the magnetic quantum number now goes from 0 to L or 0 to (n-1). It’s great to help us think outside the box. We have to see how this affects the periodic table. In Math, we did a review for the quiz and some new topics like transformations in polynomial functions.
On Thursday, we learned how to identify cellular organelles in images taken with a microscope. It’s harder than identifying them on a diagram/illustration. In Sociology, we had a quiz on some Schools of Thoughts. Then we continued with Generational Theories. We had a Colour War. Seniors had to wear black. I’m pretty sure we won, because every Grade 12 student is in their all-black phase anyway. Well, not me, but yeah. We had a supply in Chemistry, so it was a free period. We worked on our assignment. We had a quiz in math and the rest of the class was about transformations applied to cubic and quartic graphs.
Friday was a slow day. There was a University Fair in Downtown so most of our classes had 4-5 students only. I came to school for the Climate Strike, because what's the point of a University Fair, if we die before going to University. (that was dark, but it's the truth). None of my teachers did anything, so I sat and finished my homework. I also completed one month of Study with Aarushi, so that was something to celebrate. I went to the Library after the climate strike and headed home around 3 pm.
That’s all for this week. It’s been one of my busiest ones and I loved it so much. I’d like to thank everyone who is still here, reading my weekly recounts. Thank you so much. Hope you had a good week as well. - Aarushi
