This has been another short week. Monday was Thanksgiving and Tuesday was a late start. So, for me, this week was 3 and a half days.

On Tuesday morning, I woke up at 7:00 even though I didn’t have to be up till 8:40. I took my time getting ready and left at the time I usually leave at, 9:20. I got to the bus stop to see a crowd larger than usual. The bus I usually take stopped and the driver told us she wouldn’t be turning towards our school today. Everyone was mad about it, but I just walked to the previous stop to beat the morning crowd. When I got there, another bus driver told us the same thing. I began to worry that I would be late. Finally, an express bus stopped and said that he would turn towards our school, so we all boarded the bus. I don’t think he knew the route because he missed the turn and dropped us off at the next stop, telling us to walk from there. At 10 AM, we were told to walk 15 minutes and be late. UGH.

Thankfully, our Sociology teacher hadn’t started teaching yet. I made it in time to cast my student-vote for the upcoming federal elections. Then we watched an episode of The Oprah Show about transgendered kids. It was an inspiring episode. In Biology, we took up the unit test from last week. I did better than even I had expected. In Chemistry, we had a peer-made quiz. We had been given a sheet to make a quiz based on everything we had learnt in Organic Chemistry until now. Our teacher collected the quizzes and randomly distributed them. I got a 20/20 because the quiz was very simple and straight to the point. In Math, we studied more about rational functions and their asymptotes.

On Wednesday, I got to my bus stop early, ready to walk to school if the need arose. Instead, I got an empty bus. In biology, we went over the expectations our teacher has for our lab report. It’s a lengthy assignment, but it’s nothing I haven’t done before. In Sociology, we reviewed our notes from the Oprah episode and our teacher explained the concept of tutorials to us. During lunch, the SAC went to the auditorium to come up with a game plan for the Halloween festivities. In Math, we continued graphing rational functions and their reciprocals. The reciprocal graph of a parabola looks almost like a sad face. In Chemistry, we had a supply teacher, so I got a chance to finish a lot of my other work.

Thursday was an exciting day. In Sociology, we learnt how we are supposed to make a Social Scientific Thesis Statement. It was a fun class. Needless to say, most of my examples were about Taylor Swift. In Biology, we started with Chapter 3.1, Metabolism. It’s a great chapter but that lesson was mostly Physics and Chemistry so I wasn’t too fascinated.

In Chemistry, we had a lab practical. We were given temperature probes, a Vernier Lab Pro, a lab pro and some chemicals to run tests on. The objective was to have 2 clusters, each with 2 samples of chemicals with either the same number of carbons and different functional groups or the same functional groups and a different number of carbons. Our Cluster 1 was Acetone and Propanol (3C and different functional groups) and our Cluster 2 was Ethanol and Pentanol (-OH and different number of carbons). We dipped our probes in the samples and collected data on the temperature of the probe while in the liquid and when it was removed. This data relates to the volatility of the sample. The graphs formed were so fun to look at.

In Math, we learnt how to use graphing calculators. It’s so much fun playing with them. I might buy one for myself.

Friday was a quick day because TGIF. In Biology, we studied redox reactions in detail. In Sociology, we had our first tutorial. Our teacher wants to prepare us as much as possible for University. So, she made us study an article and discuss it in groups of 4. This way we learn how to properly use the terminology, communicate our ideas, participate with peers and learn from another perspective. The article was about the culture of raising “theybies”, gender-neutral children. I had a blast. At lunch, we had a UCC meeting and because not a lot of people were present, we were dismissed early. I went to the Character Fest, where the Student leaders of Character Ed put up stalls for fun games. I won a lot of Candy. In Math, we solved rational functions algebraically and then we had a quiz. During the 4th period, I missed Chemistry to be a part of a budget meeting with our principal. I think that was the highlight of my week.

This was my short, sweet week. Let me know how your week went by commenting below or emailing me at rueshi25@gmail.com.
