My third week as a senior has been quite eventful, or rather full of planning for an eventful week. XD. We have a Student Council organized ‘Welcome Week’ coming up. It’s going to be a fun week with lots of cool games and activities for the students of SWLCI. On Monday, September 23, we have Popcorn Day. So, wear our school colours to get free popcorn at lunch.

Anyways, this week, we accomplished a lot in Biology. We have an assignment to find a journal article based on the unit we are studying and summarize what has been described in it. My topic is about how digestive associated tissues helped in excretion, through active transport, even before the development of nephridia or kidneys in living organisms. In class, we have spent the week studying proteins in depth. My favourite part has been everything about enzymes because of how much there is to know.

We had a quiz on Tuesday and our teacher marked all of them in one night. So, on Wednesday, we took up the quiz and moved further with the chapter. I feel like my teacher may be underestimating some of us. I like her but sometimes she doesn’t answer some of the queries saying that we don’t know enough to understand the answer. I just want to learn as much as I can from this course. That’s all.

Sociology hasn’t been very fun because my teacher had to take personal leave for the week. The supply teacher still taught us because my teacher has every day of the semester planned out. We learnt about Societal and Personal/Cultural change in Psychology and Anthropology on Monday, and in Sociology on Tuesday. We watched Bowling for Columbine on Wednesday and Thursday. It wasn’t pleasing; it was a sad documentary.

We were supposed to take notes, but it was kind of hard watching such a triggering movie.

Thankfully, our class on Friday was missed because of the Terry Fox Run. I walked 6 laps around the school because I will not run around the school in that kind of heat. We still have to do an assignment based on the movie, but it’s not for this weekend, so I’m fine with that.

Math wasn't very interesting this week, to be honest. Because it’s Advanced Functions, it’s just adding on to what I learnt last semester, and it’s almost like a hardcore review. There isn’t much to say about math because this week has just been a quiz, test or review for the quiz/test.

Chemistry has been fun because now we’re focussing shapes of atoms and molecules and why they are important. My favourite concept for this week was Hybridized Orbitals. It’s a cool concept and the images can be funny to look at. Fun Fact: I found out that one of the Chemistry teachers at my school was taught by one of the two men who came up the Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion (VSEPR) theory, Ronald Gillespie.

Interesting events of this week:

1. Grade 9 Representative Candidate Meeting: we had a meeting after school on Tuesday with everyone interested in joining the SAC as a Student Rep for Grade 9. The turnout was good. They all looked so fresh and not yet affected by high school. XD. The current members were there to guide them on how to give a good speech and how to make a mark and I really wanted to tell them to always stay the way they are, because I wish someone had told me in Grade 9 that being stressed wouldn’t get me anywhere.

2. My first real interview: I had my first interview on Thursday for the position of one of the PR Managers of the UCC, a group that represents all the cultures and the people of our school. I’ve had jobs/internships before, but those interviews don’t exactly count. I got those jobs either through referral or because I was overqualified. This one made a difference for me because now I’m no more inexperienced when it comes to interviews. It was a good one too because I got to dress up for the occasion and wore business casual: a pink blouse, black trousers and pink block heels. I might just change my career path for a chance to wear more such outfits.

3. Picture Day: the day of my interview was also Picture Day. I’ll get my first Student ID from this school and I’m so excited. The photographer only took one photograph of me, so my friends took a ton of photographs of me after school. I like getting my pictures taken. 😊 I can’t wait for our graduation pictures to be taken. I stayed late at school with a couple of my friends for a personal photoshoot. I got a few good photographs for my website. I just don’t know how I want to set them on there. Should I make a gallery of just my photographs? That would be kind of narcissistic. But it’s also a portfolio of my friends’ work. So, it’s supportive. Tell me what I should do.

That was my third week of Grade 12. Tell me how your week was by DMing me on Instagram at @studywithaarushi or by emailing me on rueshi25@gmail.com. -Aarushi
