This week was so short, I don’t even know if it qualifies as a week XD. I know I’ve had 3-day weeks before, but with the late starts, this week seemed even shorter. I was in school for like 15 hours.
On Tuesday, I had a late start. In Calculus, we started with the second chapter, Derivatives. The first lesson was pretty simple. We just learned the easier way of doing what we’d done in Chapter 1. In English, we watched the first 20 minutes of the Black Mirror episode, Nosedive. I watched this episode once, for Sociology, and I was just as bored now as I was then. Then, we did an essay about China’s plan for a Social Credit System and how they were going to implement a way to rate everyone in order to determine if they should have access to certain facilities and luxuries. This is their way of producing contributing citizens. In Writer’s Craft, we read a story called “What Happens to Ravel’s ‘Bolero’?” Ravel’s ‘Bolero’ is a 17-minute musical piece that starts of soft but there is a constant increase in intensity. The notes a repeated but with more and more instruments each time. The story was something like that. The first part was a basic gist of the story and, by the end, you had a full explanation.
Wednesday was pretty chill. In Calculus, we learnt some rules to help us find derivatives of functions. I didn’t do much in my spare. At lunch, I went to a meeting to discuss the ticket sales for the Prom. In Writer’s Craft, we continued with our discussion about “What Happens to Ravel’s ‘Bolero’?” In English, we watched a speech given by Steve Jobs at the commencement of Stanford’s Class of 2005. The essay we got, to analyze, was a transcript of the speech. It’s probably the best one we’ve read so far. It was interesting and simple and fun to read.
Thursday was here before I knew it. Another late start for me. In Calculus, we studied the Product Rule for derivatives. So, instead of having to expand a term that is raised to exponent 7 to find it’s derivative, we simply use the Rule. In English, we had a supply, so I finished my Math homework. In Writer’s Craft, we were given our next assignment, which is to present an in-depth analysis of one of the 16 stories in the Sixteen by Twelve book. I got “A Basket of Apples” which was my favourite to read.
That was pretty much all I did all week. I have a few Science competitions coming up, so I’m thinking of including my progress in prepping for them, in my posts. They are all Biology-based but the material is different for each one, so I have to study for all of them. Anyways, this is all for now. See you next week. -Aarushi
