April 20 – April 24

This week was incredibly fun for me because I celebrated both my parents’ birthdays. I think they were either born 3 days apart or a year and 3 days apart. It’s really cool and so much fun for me because I got to dress up and eat a bunch of good food. I decided I wouldn’t do any homework on their birthdays so that’s kind of an explanation for why Monday and Thursday are shorter than other days.

On Monday, I submitted my English assignment for the thesis statements early in the morning because a whole week wasn’t enough for me to start it. If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you know that I like to stay on top of my work, but this quarantine is not helping my productivity. Anyways, in Calculus and Vectors, we started the second half of the course: vectors. Bye-bye Calculus. I’m liking vectors a lot more. Chapter 6.1 was just an introduction to vectors. In Writer’s Craft, we didn’t really get any more work. We just got more tips on how to write better. In English, we started Hamlet. The assignment was to tell her why Hamlet was still important and why people still cared about it.

On Tuesday, I got to talk to my Writer’s Craft teacher on the phone. It wasn’t as nerve-wracking as I thought it would be. She gave her very honest opinion and I was relieved when she said she would give me a little longer to submit a better outline. In an earlier correspondence through email, I had presented an idea of 2 business partners who hate working with each other but realize their company only worked when they were a team. She said that the idea was good but because I hadn’t worked in a business environment, it might become hard to write it realistically. Then for the outline, I pitched an idea that was just romance, and I hated even typing it. I just submitted it for the sake of submitting something. Then, she gave me feedback and tips about what she wanted to see in our stories. She said we could write about personal experiences or weird encounters or just an insightful piece on how life can be for a certain person in a certain geographic location. And that gave me an idea for what I am now writing to submit as my ISU Short Story. I think I will post the final draft here if my teacher says that’s ok. Then, after the call, I worked on 6.1 and 6.2, which was the addition and subtraction of vectors. I’m loving vectors. I spent about an hour exploring the links my English teacher sent for the assignment. Basically, my answer to the question was that people still care about Hamlet because it’s relatable regardless of the day and age. There is so much freedom of interpretation that it can have many different meanings for many different people, and it keeps everyone satisfied.

On Wednesday, we got 6.3, multiplication of vectors. I didn’t do much work that day because I felt mentally exhausted and just wanted to rest for a little while. Our English teacher also posted the distance learning bingo again. She wants us to do another 3 squares. I submitted my new outline for the WC ISU and my teacher loved it.

On Thursday, I celebrated my mom’s birthday. We made 7 small pizzas and I had the biggest food baby by the time I ate my last slice. It was a fun day. Then, we got an assignment for Chapter 6 and I had to go work. I still haven’t done 6.4, properties of vectors, but because that wasn’t needed for the assignment, I put it off for later.

On Friday, after I submitted the Math assignment, I was done for the day because I had no other homework. For the distance learning bingo, I had already submitted a review for a game, a song that would be fun to analyze as a class and a six-word memoir. This time, I submitted a review for a Ted Talk video I watched about how to properly tie your shoelaces, a review for the show Kim’s Convenience and a short trivia challenge. BINGO BINGO BINGO.

This week was so much fun. I loved every assignment and every day. Hopefully, the rest of my remote learning weeks are just as fun. I hope you have a good week. Stay home; stay safe. – Aarushi
