With the pace of life, Halloween could have come and gone, and I wouldn’t even know. But because this was my last Halloween as a legal child, I decided I wanted to be creative with my outfit. That lasted a whole of 5 minutes, after which I gave up my search on Pinterest. I planned to dress as Red Riding Hood and to buy a red cape and a basket. But because stores that are dedicated to party supplies are far from where I live and because schoolwork was a higher priority, I dropped that idea.

I knew I wanted to dress up, but I didn’t know what to wear. So, my mom suggested I wear a dress I have only worn 2 times and get something to go with it. I thought, once again, ‘let’s buy a cape’. Couldn’t someone have told me sooner to let go of the idea of a cape? Anyways, needless to say, that didn’t work out.

After a lot of procrastination, I came up with the perfect plan; I would buy a crown from the dollar store and be a monarch. I chose not to stick to heteronormative labels like 'queen' or 'princess'. Along with that, to impress my Biology teacher, I decided I would dress up as a nucleus with the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum.

For the Biology costume, I bought brown wrapping paper that may be the same material like paper bags. I cut a large strip to make the ‘nuclear envelope’. I cut some holes, representing the ‘nuclear pores’. I cut some more strips to be folded up and stuck on as the ‘ER’. On the front, I drew on ‘ribosomes’. And I attached some ribbon for the costume to stay in place.

My Biology teacher was impressed by my effort and everyone else in the Science Department thought I was dressed up as the Paperbag Princess. I don’t think I’ve ever read the book, but I don’t know how I feel about Science teachers not recognizing my costume.

The day was great. I couldn't get any pictures in the Bio outfit because of how much it was raining. I don’t think I’ll be going trick-or-treating because the weather forecast is that it’ll be pouring around that time. So, I might just chill at home and study for my upcoming midterms.
